iRobot, a robotics company that has been a pioneer for many years in the field but is now focusing its efforts on smart home automation. Their robot vacuum cleaners have precise navigation and dirt detectors.

Scooba

The Irobot Scooba was created to clean your floor without mess. It uses an active reservoir design that separates the cleaning solution from the sand that is dirty. It also uses three-step cleaning which scrubs, washes and squeeges the floor to remove dirt and bacterial. It can clean up 150 square feet in just one cleaning.

The Scooba has a very simple operation. The top of the Scooba is equipped with three buttons with backlights that are clearly labeled labels. The largest button, Clean, starts and stops the cleaning cycle. However there is an o band to prevent water from entering the battery compartment.

In our testing Scooba, we found that the Scooba was able to clean the majority of our kitchen tiles, but it struggled a bit with our room's mudroom. It was able to absorb the mud, but was not able to completely clean the edges of the room and it wasn't able to get close to our cabinets in the kitchen. We also observed that we could easily find the round Scooba stuck under furniture. This was not a good thing for us.

It did a fantastic job cleaning the rest of our house however, and it was extremely quick in cleaning up. It also cleaned the bathroom well and we didn't need to be concerned about lingering odors. The Scooba can be quite loud, therefore it's not the best roomba vacuum cleaner choice for bedrooms or a living room.

I did notice some gunk stuck up in the vacuum holes at the bottom of the Scooba that can be removed in part and rinsed out. This is important as clogged vacuum holes can cause the bot cease to function.

Braava

The iRobot Braava Jet m6 might appear simple, but the company has packed lots of clever engineering to make mopping and navigation a breeze. The compact body, which measures 10x10x 3,5 inches and weighs only 4.4 pounds, allows it to move through tight areas without damaging furniture. The cleaning head on the robot is designed to scrub hard floors, and its nozzle sprays water for wet mopping. It also vibrates to release dirt and stains.
