Charles the Humble Technician shows you how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to control fuel and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing is a bit challenging because there are two connector pins and they serve different purposes but the best method of testing it is to measure the resistance between the sensor Replacement Key For Audi A3 and the ECU. If the sensor is operational, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. If you're experiencing issues with this part, check for signs of oil or coolant in the connector Audi a1 car key bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, I experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, Audi A3 Key Fob three were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th stay shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I think the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not sure what to do. I believe that I've eliminated everything else. However, i'm afraid that I may have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender, and both operate on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is easy to test them - simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the position and speed of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing etc. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these goes bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate gearbox speed counter, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They are cheap and easy-to-find especially if they're a Bosch sensor like ours. You can also choose the GM version of this component is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the cause of many issues in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi a3 replacement key because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slow the engine is spinning. If this sensor fails, it could cause problems for the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 through an uncolored wire. The ECU then uses and processes the signal to control fuel, timig, and boost and then sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can determine if the sensor is in failure by examining the continuity of the sensor to the tachometer. Also, you can check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This is a standard component across the Audi etron key 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 range from 1985 MC until the 1997 UrS AAN and 1995 RS2 ADU so good ones might be availble in wrecking yards.holding-car-keys-woman-in-formal-clothes-is-indoo-2021-12-27-15-52-03-utc-min-scaled.jpg
