How to Replace an audi car keys replacement G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is situated near the transmission's edge, above the flywheel gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via the grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft aren't in sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best way to do it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed I noticed a significant drop in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were drenched with gazoline the fourth one was dry. I placed a tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The 4th one remains closed. I checked the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car can start if the G28 is not plugged in and runs fine when it is connected but it still has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar when the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I'm not sure what to do, as i believe that i've completely ruled out all other possibilities. However, i'm afraid that I might have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both function in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or from a parts store. Testing them is easy - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know both the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing, etc. To accomplish this, audi key fob replacement cost it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. They are cheap and easy-to-find, especially if they're a Bosch model like ours. Alternately, GM's version this part is a good option.

5. Tachometer

A faulty engine speed sensor could be a cause for many problems in your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission of your audi spare keys, as it transmits information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine is spinning. If this sensor fails, it could disrupt the performance of the transmission as well as the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via an uncolored wire. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the amount of fuel and boost, and also timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, New Audi Keys between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection to pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and replacement Key For audi a4 the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe approximately 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This part is common across the audi key fob not working 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find some good ones in wrecking yards.honda-logo.png
